Newest inductees to STA Hall of Fame
St. Thomas Academy recently announced this year’s inductees for its Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame. The individuals will officially be inducted in September during the school’s Homecoming weekend. The inductees are:
Thomas Perrault, class of 1964. Following high school, he went on to become a baseball conference champion at the College of St. Thomas; long-time official for the Minnesota State High School League, NCAA basketball and NCAA Division I football; and the Catholic Athletic Association athletics director.
John “Jack” Blum, class of ’66. Earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-State honors in basketball in high school. Played basketball collegiately at the College of St. Thomas, contributing to a team championship and earning individual All-Conference honors.
Mark McDonald, class of ’80, earned All-Conference, All-Metro and All-State honors in football in high school. Played football at the University of St. Thomas, earning All-American honors.
Nicholas Tongen, class of ’96, led the STA alpine ski team to conference championships and a state title, while personally earning multiple All-Conference and All-State honors and winning an individual state title.
David Hicks, class of ’06, led the STA basketball team to two third-place finishes in the state tournament and earned All-Conference, All-State and All-Tournament team honors. Following graduation, he played basketball at Long Island University and professionally in the NBA G League and in Europe.
Dylan Thomas, class of ’11, led the STA alpine ski team to multiple conference championships and three consecutive state championships while earning three All-State honors and two individual state titles.
William Ratelle, class of ’11, was an All-Conference and All-State football player in high school who led the team to multiple conference championships and state tournament appearances. In baseball, he led the team to a conference championship while earning All-Conference and All-State Honorable Mention honors. He played football for the University of North Dakota, earning conference and national honors and went on to play in the National Football League and Canadian Football League.
Alan “AJ” Reid, class of ’11, led Cadets Hockey to two state championships while earning multiple All-Conference honors and All-Tournament honors. In baseball, he was an All-Conference player, leading the Cadets to a conference championship. After the Academy, he was a 4-year letterman who led Air Force hockey to a conference championship and an NCAA Elite Eight tournament run.
Jordan Schroeder was an All-Conference, All-State and All-Tournament hockey player who led the Cadets to a state championship. He represented the Academy in the USA National Team National Development program and National Junior Team in IIHF World Juniors, winning multiple medals including gold. He later skated for the University of Minnesota, earning WCHA All-Conference and Rookie of Year honors. He was drafted 22nd overall in the 2009 NHL draft and currently plays in Europe. He left STA for the USA Development program. He played two years for the USA then entered the University of Minnesota in what would have been his senior year at STA.
Frank Deig, athletic director and coach of basketball, baseball and football in 1930s-40s. He led the football program to six conference championships in nine years. He went on to become athletics director and coach of football and basketball at the College of St. Thomas.
