Family Fun Night
By Melissa Borroel Santiago, 11th grade
Humboldt High School is hosting Family Fun Night, 5:30 p.m., Friday, Mar. 13. This is one of the school’s best opportunities for families to connect with Humboldt’s staff and learn more about the school environment. The event features food and refreshments, a scavenger hunt that gives families an opportunity to explore the building, and Bingo with prizes. Humboldt’s primary goal is to ensure every family leaves the event with a meaningful connection, whether a new relationship with a staff member or a better sense of belonging within the school, which is located at 30 E. Baker St., St. Paul. For more information, call 651-293-8600.
Students explore interests outside the classroom
By Jakari Berneck, 9th grade
Humboldt High School has a variety of clubs that offer opportunities for students to explore different interests. Here are some of the most popular clubs.
- Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) – This club teaches the basics of military service.
- Future Farmers of America (FFA) – The club serves students who are interested in the field of agriculture. Members learn how to grow and harvest crops, take agricultural field trips, and host events to share their agricultural knowledge with other students.
- Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program – This club assists students with personalized learning plans, known as tutorials, as well as the Focused Note Taking process. It also teaches other techniques that will help students succeed in college.
- Hawk Nest News – Student reporters create their own news program by conducting interviews with students, including those participating in extracurricular activities. Reports are posted daily online. Members also occasionally create music videos.
- TRIO – This club has been providing entertaining learning experiences through field trips and college visits for more than 50 years. TRIO also heads three programs: Upward Bound, Talent Search and Student Support Services.
